| Beautiful afternoon in the woods. 4pm had a 3pt and one other deer within slug range but no clean shot . Very thick and dense area. I didn't want to take a marginal shot and still be out there chasing it. Tomorrow I'm of to Pennsy for3 days. Hope to have some luck there. Still no deer in the freezer yet this year. | |

| Today really makes me sit back and think, where the hell did 17 years go? tomorrow ill be 18? dam lol. I decided I would have to go play in the woods on my last day of being a 'kid' so I grabbed my bow and headed off to my spot. There were a couple guys there but nothin bad. I headed into the tree I sat last January and found two decent runs. I climbed up, got settled in and within 10 minutes I see a buck. It appeared to be a 4pt from what I could tell. He fed and worked his way to me for about 20 min, then he crossed a creek and headed for me. Back behind him was a small doe I was watching and then the woods came alive. I see a few deer roaming around including another buck which looked a little bit bigger. The 4pt or so I thought was coming to me and I drew back..I had so many different shots on him..I even grunted and stopped him, but out of the corner of my eye I see this bigger buck come out cross the creek and follow this buck. I was at full draw for a good minute making sure the other buck which ended up being a 6pt didnt see me. The buck I was on came in to 18 yards, perfect broadside and I put the pin behind the shoulder, counted to 3...THWACK. I see my hit, perfect pass through. Right where I aimed. He runs off about 30 yards tail up and stops. Gets a little wobbly, and drags his back legs behind me another 50 yards and goes in a log pile. The whole time I am saying in a low voice, YES YES DIE GO DOWN YES!!!! He went down, 70 yards from me. Double lung...couldnt ask for anything better. It was my first time I never had any help and gutting it was a little difficult but I got the job done and snapped a few pics. My first ever buck, with a bow to boot. A decent little 8pt that I am more then happy with. I passed up two 4pts and a spike this year in hopes of being rewarded and I finally was.. | Success in PA. Went to PA to hunt with my brothers on Wed and just got back. Thought maybe pa would change my luck. Got there at 1pm Wed. and because of the weather, they had about 8 inches of snow tuesday night and Wed morning I figured the deer would be putting on the feed bag Wed night. I got in a stand that overlook the standing corn and sorghum field at about 2.
Well it happened. At 4:30 4 deer came out of the corner of the field about 225 yds away and worked there way across the field. It was a very large doe 2 fawns and a medium sized doe. I watched them through the scope the entire time and when the big doe got to 150 yds. I touced off the shot. She spun and took off with the rest following her. She went about 60 yds and piled up. She was pretty big as she weighed 118 dressed. I finally broke the ice so hopefully it changes my Jersey luck with the muzzy next week.
Still need a couple more for the freezer. | |
