Bird #3 in columbus

Scott and I headed out at 430am this morning. We hit our little 17 acre private piece in Columbus. About 20 mins after we set up Scott spotted a BIG Tom about 300 yards out on the neighboring field. When I say big that's an understatment. This bird was huge. He worked his way over to with in 100 yards. Puffed up, strutting dragging his beard on the ground with every step. Then he broke right. We later realized after looking in through the binoculars that our dekes and calling cant hold a candle to 2 live hens. Damn. Oh well there is always next year. We saw another Tom about 1hr later. But he wanted nothing to do with us. We had about a 90min lull then Scott hit the slate call. Bam gobble on the other side of the property. We called back. He shut up. Damn again. We stayed quiet for about 20min. The we called again. Gobble. He was half the distance and closing. We called. He gobble. He coming and coming fast. We set up in a blind this morning because it was suppose to rain. Wrong no rain. The problem is he was coming behind us. Its thick behind us. The last gobble he made was about 10 yards behind us. I had the gun out the window aiming out the left side of the blind waiting for him to clear the brush. He stepped out at 15 yards very nervous. He turned started to go back and I put him down. I think every pellet entered his head and neck. What a rush. I have a 11E permit still so Ill be out next saturday with the bow. This Tom was lacking in the beard department. Im mean he had a beard but I either shot most of it off or he losted it fighting. There were only 5 strands left. Thanks Scott for coming with me and calling him in.
